May 2007 Cooking Challenge
I've gotten out of the habit of cooking at home. It has literally been a couple of weeks since we've had something that wasn't either from a restaurant or a can or a box. I like to cook, but I got out of the habit when I started working (I'm a cook at work). So, I decided that for the month of May, most of my meals would be home-cooked. I'm looking at it like a challenge and have set up a few guidelines for myself:
1. All meals must be cooked by either Jeremy (my husband) or me, with the exception of up to two meals a week.
2. Canned soups are allowed.
3. Meal-in-a-box meals do not count.
4. Frozen pre-made meals do not count.
5. Any candy/dessert must be made by Jeremy or me (unless included in the two "off" meals).
So, by the rules, a microwavable meal would count as one of my two "off" meals a week, as would, say, hamburger helper (and, obviously, any restaurant meals). I should also mention that I'm going to allow myself to count meals that I have at work, provided they are cooked by me.
One of the reasons that I'm allowing myself two "off" meals is that my husband and I have a standing date at a restaurant on Fridays. It's a pretty important ritual for me and I want to be able to keep it. The other meal accounts for what happens if I oversleep, am sick, lacking in energy, or want to have a meal with friends.
Would anybody like to join me?
